Thesis:The Cultivation Theory is when an audience becomes part of a world that is created by the Media.
Viewers of television, movies, and advertising become so accustomed to what they watch that they begin to live in the way that was created. Some would see a Bud Light commercial showing a group of people having a good time while drinking their beers. Later the viewers would call their friends, get some drinks, and do the same thing just to have a good time when there are many other safe ways to do so. The media wants the audience to see that their products will make them more powerful by broadcasting these sort of advertisements everywhere. And after buying their product, they feel like they're ahead of the curve thus showing the Cultivation Theory.
One example of the this theory is when a group of teenagers come home after watching "Super Bad" and wanting to party and drink alcohol in order to get the girl. Of course they know that it's against the law to drink underage, but after watching the movie and seeing the characters get away with, they think they can too. So after partying and drinking with a huge group of friends and people from school, the neighbors call the cops because of all the noise and commotion that they hear next door. The cops crash the party and arrest the kids they could get they're hands on and call for back-up. The host then realizes how ignorant he was for copying what he had seen in a comedy flick and now must suffer the consequences.
Just because the guys from "Super Bad" got away with the law, doesn't mean that he or his friends could.
There are many examples that can be said. Like for one, a single man shouldn't hope to find his other half by simply buying Axe body spray just because Axe commercials depict so. Here is a 5 minute video of what happens to this man who bought a television and how it changed his perspective on life.

As you can see, the media uses this as a way to get the viewer to buy they're product and on the flipside, the viewer's perspective on life is distorted.
