This is Marc again posting up for the Blog Post Assignment on Hegemony. So here goes nothing. :]
Thesis: Hegemony is an infectious process that influences the way society thinks and lives.
It's everywhere, Hegemony, and most of the time society doesn't even know it because they have become so accustomed to it over time. Now a days, the media brings out advertisements, movies, television shows, to bring power and attention in their favor to be number one. The audience would see advertisements of famous people drinking Coca-Cola everywhere and would drink that more than other products like Pepsi, Nestea, etc. They'll be trying to be like they're idols or they've just forgotten about the other brands through all the commotion. Beverages is just a small example of course.
Another example of Hegemony, is when the Presidential Campaign of 2008 occurred. Both major parties set campaign advertisements to bring the opponent party down to reel in as many votes and support from America as possible. For instance, Barack Obama's slogan was "Change" and during this time of crisis with the Middle East, "Change" was definitely something that the American citizen wanted to see. "Change" was to empower the lower class American and to bring hope for a better tomorrow. Friends and families came together to try to have everyone vote for Obama. Bumper car stickers were seen on the streets. Ads on television aired constantly from time to time. Even schools and children became a part of the event. Of course as it turns out, Obama won the hearts of the majority and became president. Unfortunately, he has not shown to bring "Change" to America, but nonetheless he has reached to top by simply winning over the American citizen through campaigning, advertising, etc.
Hegemony isn't always that bad everytime, but it can inspire society to become what the dominant wants it to be. Here's a casual example that doesn't seem to happen anytime soon. But in a movie that just came out recently, a comic book nerd always wondered why no one has become a Superhero to try to fight off crime. Hopefully most of you know what movie I'm talking about..."Kick-Ass"! If you've seen the movie, then you'll know that he was the inspiration to society to have the courage to come out of hiding and to take a stand against crime. Here's the trailer for those who don't know what I'm talking about lol.

So in other words, Hegemony and the media have a lot to do with how society changes and how they live. This is Marc Morales once again, and this is my Blog Post. :]
